Steering & Suspension Repairs, CV Joints & Shock Absorbers

Shocks, struts, bushes, ball joints and CV joints — the parts Sydney roads destroy fastest.

Suspension does more than make the ride comfortable. It keeps the tyres in contact with the road, and everything your car does — steering, braking, cornering — depends on that contact being maintained. Worn shock absorbers measurably increase stopping distances.

Sydney is genuinely hard on suspension components. Speed humps, patched roads, kerbs and potholes all take their toll, and the wear is gradual enough that most drivers adapt to it without noticing. Cars regularly come in for something unrelated, and the owner is surprised at how different it feels afterwards.

CV joints are the other common failure we see, particularly on front-wheel-drive cars. The joint itself is robust, but it is protected by a rubber boot, and once that boot splits the grease escapes, grit gets in, and the joint is on borrowed time. A split boot caught early is a cheap repair.

Steering & Suspension — common questions

What does a clicking noise when turning mean? +

It is the classic symptom of a worn outer CV joint, and it usually gets louder on full lock. Have it looked at promptly — a CV joint that fails completely can leave the car undriveable, and if the boot is only split the repair is far cheaper if caught early.

How long do shock absorbers last? +

Typically 80,000km to 120,000km, though Sydney conditions often shorten that. Because they degrade gradually rather than failing suddenly, most people do not notice until new ones are fitted. We check them at every service.

Do I need a wheel alignment after suspension work? +

Yes — almost always. Replacing control arms, tie rod ends, struts or ball joints changes the geometry, and without a realignment you will scrub out a set of tyres quickly. We have in-house alignment equipment, so it is done in the same visit.

Why is my car wearing tyres unevenly? +

Most often alignment, but worn bushes, ball joints or shocks can all cause it too — and if those are worn, an alignment alone will not hold. We diagnose the underlying cause rather than just resetting the angles.
