Brake Repairs, Pad Replacement & ABS Service in Mascot

Pads, discs, fluid and ABS fault diagnosis — with a free brake inspection at every service.

Brakes are the one system on your car where there is no acceptable margin for "probably fine". They are also gradual — pads wear down over tens of thousands of kilometres, and because the change happens slowly most drivers do not notice how much braking performance they have lost until something new is fitted.

We inspect brakes as part of every service at no extra charge, and we measure rather than eyeball. Pad material is measured against minimum thickness, discs are measured for thickness and run-out, and fluid is tested for moisture content.

That last one is routinely ignored. Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs water from the atmosphere — and water lowers the boiling point. Fluid that has never been changed can boil under heavy braking, and boiling fluid means a pedal that goes to the floor.

Brakes & ABS — common questions

How often should brake pads be replaced? +

There is no fixed interval — it depends entirely on how and where you drive. Stop-start city driving wears pads far faster than highway kilometres. Most cars need front pads somewhere between 30,000km and 70,000km. We measure at every service so you get warning well before it becomes urgent.

Do discs need replacing every time the pads are done? +

No. If the discs are above minimum thickness and free of scoring or run-out, they can often be machined or simply reused. We measure them and show you the readings. Replacing discs that do not need it is a common and expensive upsell.

What does an ABS light mean? +

It means the ABS system has detected a fault and has disabled itself. Your normal brakes still work, but you lose anti-lock function under emergency braking. The most common cause is a dirty or failed wheel speed sensor, which is an inexpensive repair. Get it diagnosed promptly.

How often should brake fluid be changed? +

Generally every two years regardless of distance, because the fluid absorbs moisture over time rather than wearing out through use. We test moisture content at every service and will tell you when it is due.
