Exhaust System Repairs & Muffler Replacement in Mascot
Blowing exhausts, rattles, mufflers and catalytic converters — repaired rather than replaced where possible.
An exhaust does more than quieten the engine. It carries genuinely dangerous gases — carbon monoxide among them — safely to the back of the car, and it houses the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors that keep the engine running efficiently and legally.
A blowing exhaust is not just noise. A leak ahead of the oxygen sensor feeds false readings to the engine computer, which then gets the fuel mixture wrong, costing you economy and performance. A leak anywhere in the system can let fumes into the cabin.
Where a section can be repaired we will repair it. Many workshops quote a full system replacement when a single joint, flexi-pipe or rear muffler is the actual problem, and exhaust systems are modular — replacing only the failed section is usually entirely appropriate.

Exhaust & Muffler — common questions
Can you repair my exhaust or does it need replacing? +
It depends where the failure is. Exhausts are modular, so a corroded rear muffler or a split flexi-pipe can usually be replaced as a single section rather than as a complete system. We inspect the whole run and quote only for what has actually failed.
Will a blowing exhaust fail a pink slip? +
Yes. Exhaust leaks and excessive noise are both grounds for failing an eSafety inspection, as is a missing or gutted catalytic converter. If your inspection is due, get the exhaust sorted first.
Do I need to replace the catalytic converter? +
Not as often as people are told. A converter fault code frequently points to a failing oxygen sensor, an exhaust leak, or an engine running rich rather than the converter itself — and replacing the converter without fixing the underlying cause will just kill the new one. We test before condemning it.
Why is my exhaust louder than it used to be? +
Almost always a leak that has developed gradually — a rust hole, a failed joint gasket, or a split flexi-pipe. Because it worsens slowly most drivers acclimatise to it. It is worth getting looked at, both for fumes and because leaks upstream affect engine management.
